Traditional Restaurant Pagers vs. QR Code Digital Paging

Plastic pagers have served restaurants for years. Here is what changes when you move to QR codes, and how to switch without disrupting service.

What a traditional pager does well

A pager is simple: customers carry it and it buzzes when the food is ready. It needs no phone and no internet. That simplicity is why it lasted so long, and it is worth keeping in mind as you plan the switch.

The hidden costs of pagers

Pagers have to be bought, charged, cleaned, and replaced when they break or walk out of the door. You can only serve as many waiting customers as you have devices, and staff spend time handing them out and collecting them back.

What QR paging adds

With QR paging the customer's phone does the job. They see the order status and an estimated wait, get alerted when it is ready, and can rate their experience afterwards. There is no limit on how many customers you can call at once.

Making the switch

Start with one branch. Put the QR code on the receipt or a counter display, show staff the one-tap ready button, and run a few test orders before opening. Keep calling at the counter for customers who prefer it.

Measuring the result

After a few weeks, look at preparation times, uncollected orders and customer ratings. Compare them with how pickup felt before, then roll out to your other branches.
